Mission Statement of Second Command

Knowing that prayer changes people and people can change the world, Second Command seeks to fulfill Christ’s call to Love Your Neighbor in Matthew 22: 36-40:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.‘ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.‘ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Why start Second Command?

Scripture records that Christ was asked, “What is the greatest commandment?” to which he brilliantly responded:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.   And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.‘ Thus, he elegantly summarized God’s rules as first, loving God, and second, loving your fellow man.

Thus, Second Command enables the world to love their neighbors through online social networking tools.

God gave us rules as outlined in the Bible for our own good, to protect us from the “default nature of the human heart” which is a self-centered nature.

He told us this, because, quite simply, love is powerful stuff.  Love changes people.  And as a person’s heart and mind change, they change their outlook on the world and they change their relationships with others.

These relationships and acts, if intentional, change and strengthen the communities and the social networks in which we live.  Acts of love used to be primary local in nature…now they can be global, be instantaneous and be tracked.  Online social networks are powerful stuff as well.

Simply put, caring for others (i.e. love) conquers all.  Love never fails.  It is the greatest of all human attributes (1 Corinthians 13).  If intentional, through love we can fight extreme poverty in the world.  Through acts of love, we will defeat extreme ideology in the world.

Love is the root of everything good that has ever happened and everything that will ever happen.

So please, use SecondCommand.  Go and care and love your neighbor.  Pray for them, give to them if in need, ask them to pray for you.  Strengthen your community.  Strengthen your relationships.  Add new friends from around the world.  Change yourself…change this world.
